the big day the greener way

What makes Green… Green?

Here is an interesting question/discussion: What makes ‘Green’… Green? What is ‘Green’?

I know that there is a very vague ‘idea’ in peoples minds when it comes to calling things ‘green’, but firstly there are many varying ways that people understand what is meant. Here are a few examples of what might be meant:

“Green means whatever is natural… unpolluted by humans”

“Green means whatever is in its wild state, if people interfere/cut/move etc. then it is no longer ‘green’”

“As people, made in God’s image, we have a responsibility to ‘cultivate’. All plants and trees need cultivation to remain beautiful and reproduce in a manner that does not become over-run with any one thing”

“Green is only using things that will not have a long term negative impact on the environment”

“‘Green’ is trying your best to do things that will help the environment.”

“A colour!”

“Being ‘green’ means that we need to make sure that there is still an earth for the next generation, and the generation after that, and after that, and after that…”

So then, do we just pick and choose what we want to call ‘green’ – whatever is green for you is green for you and whatever is green for me is green for me? Well yes, I think that that is sort of right. That you cannot have an absolute definition as there is no absolute reference point for the concept of green to get it’s foundation.

I think that whatever worldview we take, it is necessary to accept that if we follow it through to an absolute conclusion then it will be extremely hard to implement… IMO!

Other green ‘thingamies’!

We’re not just limiting the blog to green wedding stuff, but also expand it to cover general wedding stuff and also general ‘green’ stuff.

For example, conservation things, eco cars, recommendations of wedding photographers, locations, entertainers etc.

A very close friend runs a driving instructors website and we have endless debates about the impact of cars on the roads and whether we would be better off without vehicles/if vehicles should be restricted for certain types of journeys/if the eco side of the driving test should be crucial to the test (I think it is not taken that seriously at the moment!). My friend has agreed to open the debate up and put some points ready for comment on my site… so I look forward to that!

Hello again!

Welcome back to the Green Wedding Blog!

For those who are looking for a more environmentally friendly big day, then we aim to look at/review/etc. some of the options available.

From eco dresses, to eco cars, to eco gifts, to… well anything ‘weddingy’ at all really!

Oh, and while I’m at it – things like this Consult Review make me mad. If someone wants to provide an SEO service then they should provide a service, they should not go to the lengths that they did. Rant is now over!
